End of the Road... Photos

End of the Road...

Rio Mayo:  Wado caught up with us and we started off again on the most

demanding part of the trip, some 400 km of gravel. On the last 200 we had

winds of about 100 km which put our bikes at 45 degree angles to the floor.

At times, we had to travel in 1st gear!!!!

Anyway, we arrived that night at El Chalten, a small  hippie town, full of

foreigners doing trekking... From then on the weather was our main enemy,

specially the wind.

We spent one night in a small cabin owned by climbers and the next day we

continued to El Calafate where we stayed in a lovely flat owned by a couple

from Cordoba. That was the 24th. That evening, Navidad, we went to a Chinese

Asado place (all you can eat, owned by Chinese!!!) We were sleeping by 11,

but got woken up at 12 with all the fireworks!!!

On the 25th we got up early and drove to the Glaciar Perito Moreno, which was

amazing. (See photos below.) The road was very nice to ride too... From there we came back to

the cabin, picked up our things and carried on south, to cross the border

to Chile at Rio Turbio. On the way we saw lots of avestruces and guanacos. (Apologies to English readers - no idea!! Jimena - help!!!)

We crossed the border into Puerto  Natales. We had lovely dinner in a

restaurant owned by argentineans, and I tracked down Kerry, Terry East's

daughter, who I went to see next morning!

From there we carried on all day under the rain and wind until a small town

called Sombrero were we spent the night. Next morning we crossed back into

Argentina, thanks god, and carried on all the way to Ushuaia.

We are a bit fed up with the weather and cold... If it was a bit better we

would stay a few days, but I see no point on staying in the hotel, we might

as well be back in Cordoba.

Glaciers and Icebergs!!

Nearly there...
